Athletes all around the globe pour their heart out in the preparation of big tournaments such as Asian Games, and Indian Athletes are no different. Indian women boxing team has always been a proud area for Indian sport and the fellow Indians. This Asian games however turned out to be a mixed bag of emotions for all indian supporters.
On one hand Mark Kom went on to win the gold medal for the first time in Asian games, even after having multiple sabbaticals in past two years. She gave birth to her third child, wasn't able to qualify for the Commonwealth games and was in hitting list of doubters and whiners to see her participation in the Asian games. However, despite all odd, Magnificient Mary went on to prove all her critics wrong and once again proved that she is unbreakable and probably the most inspirational and greatest female athelete India has ever seen. An ecstatic moment that encourages million girls to be like her.
On the other hand, Sarita devi lost out in the semi-final to a Korean athlete in an extremely controversial match. All the viewers were shocked to see her loss after having performed extremely well and was an obvious favorite for the match post her performance. What turned out to be a even bigger controversial moment is when Sarita Devi refused to accept the Bronze Medal. I do not very much agree with her action, however it was her way of expressing her protest to the officials. She was devastated on the IOA has reacted to the whole situation. She complained that she didn't receive a single consoling word from any of the IOA officials or the coaches. Moreover, her husband had to ask media for an additional $100 to file the protest against the decision. A sad instance which discourages the budding athletes to see their ideals helpless, crying for support and help.
We must support all the athletes whatever situation may be, as they are the one who makes our mother India proud by thier perseverance and never-give up attitude and hard-work.
