Reasons to work !!

I was just wondering what could be the driving force for people to work under adverse working conditions such as superior's pressure for delivery, 24X7 support, pressure from clients and so on. I started talking to people to try to comprehend what makes them sustain work pressure. The findings were extremely interesting.

Few people blatantly say they work for money. These people, i felt are the ones who crib most about the problems they face at work. Probably, only money is not a good motivator though does make some to keep going despite all odds.

My few colleagues said they have good understanding of the system and are paid handsome amount. This group likes to remain passive and focus more to keep the job, not much worried about promotions. They want to work because they averse change and are well adopted to current working condition. An attempt to become vocal and aggressive could mean chance of mistakes and eventually possible job loss . In short fear of mistakes. Conceded !!

Few people said they like appreciation. This was the enthusiastic lot. They like to take responsibility and have desire to grow up the ladder. However, what was missing was the ability to take risk to try different things. They were more likely to remain in the same company or industry for rest of their lives. A change of type of work means trying something totally different and that could mean chance of failure. In short, fear of failure.

Then i stumbled upon the most interesting ones, just a few, who said they work to face the challenges. They like to take up risks. They work in the company or industry for sometime, gain accolades and then instead of trying to en-cash on good work, they like to move on. Probably to a different company or different kind of work altogether. This lot wants to enjoy the work and doesn't fear failure or mistakes. More chances of failure but a chance to experience joy and trades that only few can in a life time.

Which lot do you belong to ?
